Ya Imam al-Rusli (Arabic: يا إمام الرسل; “O Leader of the Messengers”) is a famous poem in praise of the Prophet ﷺ. It was composed by the Sudanese scholar and poet Shaykh Abd al-Rahim al-Bura’i and celebrates the Prophet’s ﷺ lofty status, character, and mercy, while expressing the believer’s love, reliance, and hope for his intercession.

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسْلِ يَا سَنَدِي ❁ أَنْتَ بَابُ اللَّهِ مُعْتَمَدِي ❁
فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي ❁ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي ❁
فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي ❁ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي ❁
Yā imāma r-rusli yā sanadī, anta bābu Llāhi muʿtamadī,
fa-bi-dunyāya wa-ākhiratī, yā rasūla Llāhi khudh bi-yadī.

O leader of the Messengers, O my support, you are the door to Allah, the one upon whom I rely.
In my worldly life and my Hereafter, O Messenger of Allah, take me by the hand.

قَسَمًا بِالنَّجْمِ حِينَ هَوَى ❁
مَا الْمُعَافَى وَالسَّقِيمُ سَوَا ❁
مَا الْمُعَافَى وَالسَّقِيمُ سَوَا ❁
Qasaman bi-n-najmi ḥīna hawā,
mā l-muʿāfā wa-s-saqīmu sawā.

2. I swear by the star when it descends:
the healthy and the sick are not alike.

فَاخْلَعِ الْكَوْنَيْنِ عَنْكَ سِوَى ❁
حُبِّ مَوْلَى الْعُرْبِ وَالْعَجَمِ ❁
حُبِّ مَوْلَى الْعُرْبِ وَالْعَجَمِ ❁
Fa-khlaʿi l-kawnayni ʿanka siwā,
ḥubbi mawlā l-ʿurbi wa-l-ʿajami.

3. So, renounce both worlds completely,
except for love of the master of the Arabs and non-Arabs.

سَيِّدُ السَّادَاتِ مِنْ مُضَرِ ❁
غَوْثُ أَهْلِ الْبَدْوِ وَالْحَضَرِ ❁

Sayyidu s-sādāti min Muḍari,
ghawthu ahli l-badwi wa-l-ḥaḍari.

4. The master of all masters from Mudar,

5. The possessor of the verses and surahs,

6. A moon whose inner nature is pure,
