    Surah Yunus

    Contents
A.L.R.: These are the signs of the decisive scripture. [10:1]
It is a wonder to people that We inspired a man from among them to warn humanity and bring believers the good news that there is a state of reality for them in the presence of their Lord. Scoffers say, “This is an obvious enchanter!” [10:2]
Your Lord is the God who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then mounted the throne, managing the order. There is no intercessor but on condition of divine permission. That is God for you, your Lord—so serve God. Won’t you remain mindful? [10:3]
It is to God that you return, all: the promise of God is true. For it is God who begins the creation, and then repeats it to reward with justice those who have faith and do good works. As for those who scoff, they’ll have a drink of scalding water, and a painful penalty for disbelieving. [10:4]
It is God who has made the sun shine and the moon glow, and determined lunar phases that you may know the number of the years, and the calculation. God did not create that in any way but right; God makes these signs clear to people who discern. [10:5]
For in the alternation of night and day, and what God has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for conscientious people. [10:6]
As for those who do not look forward to meeting Us, but are pleased with the life of this world and satisfied with it, and those who are heedless of Our signs, [10:7]
their abode is the fire, on account of what they have earned. [10:8]
As for those who believe and do good works, their Lord will guide them through their faith; rivers will flow below them, in gardens of felicity. [10:9]
Their call there will be, “Glory to You, O God!” And their greeting there will be “Peace.” And the close of their call will be, “All praise is for God, Lord of all worlds.” [10:10]
If God accelerated the ill for people as they wish to hasten the good, their time would be determined. So We leave those who do not look forward to meeting with Us wandering lost in their excess. [10:11]
And when trouble touches man, he cries to Us laying on his side, sitting, and standing; but when We have removed his trouble for him, he goes on as if he had never called on Us for trouble that touched him. Thus do their habits seem good to the wasteful. [10:12]
We destroyed communities before you when they did wrong. Their messengers came to them with clarifications, but they could not believe. Thus do We requite sinful people. [10:13]
Then We made you successors on earth after them, that We might see how you act. [10:14]
Yet when Our clear signs are rehearsed to them, those who do not look forward to meeting Us say, “Bring a recital other than this, or change it.” Say, “It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow what has been revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I disobeyed my Lord, the torment of a terrible day. ” [10:15]
Say, “Had God willed, I would not have recited it to you, and God would not have taught it to you. And I have sojourned among you for a lifetime before this; so won’t you understand?” [10:16]
So who does more wrong than one who invents falsehood about God or repudiates the signs of God? Sinners do not attain their aim. [10:17]
And they worship, not God, but what neither harms or helps them; yet they say, “These are our intercessors with God.” Say, “Do you inform God of anything God does not know in the heavens or on earth? Glorified be God, above any association you make.” [10:18]
And humankind was just one people, who later differed. And had it not been for a Word gone forth from your Lord, their differences would have been settled. [10:19]
Yet they say, “Why was a sign from his Lord not sent down to him?” Say, “The mystery is up to God, so wait. Indeed, I am waiting with you.” [10:20]
When We have made people taste mercy after misfortune has touched them, behold—they plot against Our signs. Say, “God is swifter to plan!” For Our emissaries record what you plot. [10:21]
It is God who eases your way on land and sea, even when you are in ships: for they travel on them by good winds, and rejoice thereat; but when a violent wind comes, and surging waves come upon them from all sides, and they think they are surrounded by them, they call to God with sincere religiosity, “If You rescue us from this, we will really be grateful!” [10:22]
Then when God rescues them, behold—they act unjustly on earth, unfairly, without reason. O humanity! You only oppress your own selves, as the stuff of the life of the world; after that you will return to Us, and We will tell you about what you had been doing. [10:23]
The life of the world is but as water We send down from the sky to be absorbed into the vegetation, from which humans and livestock eat. Then when the earth takes on its golden ornamentation and is all adorned, the people on it think they have power over it. Our order comes to it by night or by day; then We have it mown down, as if it had not flourished the day before. Thus do We explain the signs to people who reflect. [10:24]
And God calls to the abode of peace; and guides anyone, at will, to a straight path. [10:25]
For those who have acted rightly is happiness and more: no dust will cover their faces, and no ignominy. They are the company of the Garden, where they will abide. [10:26]
As for those who have done evil, evil like it is their reward; and ignominy will cover them. They will have no defense against God. It will be as if their faces were covered with a piece of night, plunging them into the darkness: they are the inmates of the fire, where they will abide. [10:27]
And one day We will gather them all together and say to the idolatrous, “To your place, you and your idols! Then We will separate them, and their idols will say, “It was not us you were worshipping. [10:28]
“God is sufficient witness between us; we were unaware of your worship!” [10:29]
There every soul will prove what it has done, and they will return to God, their true Lord, while their inventions forsake them. [10:30]
Say, “Who provides for you from the skies and the earth? And who has power over hearing and seeing? And who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living? And who governs the Order? They will say, “God.” So say, “Then will you not be alert?” [10:31]
So that is God for you: your Lord, the Truth. And what is there after Truth but error? Then why are you alienated? [10:32]
Thus has the word of your Lord proved true against the dissolute, that they do not believe. [10:33]
Say, “Does any of your idols initiate Creation and subsequently restore it?” Say, “God initiates creation, and subsequently restores it; so why are you deluded?” [10:34]
Say, “Does any of your idols guide to Truth?” Say, “God guides to Truth. Is one who guides to truth more worthy of being followed, or one who does not find the right direction unless he is guided? What is the matter with you? How do you judge?” [10:35]
Most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Conjecture is of no avail against Truth. For God knows what they do. [10:36]
And this Qur’an is not something that could be manufactured without God; rather, it is a confirmation of what preceded it, and a fuller explanation of scripture, in which there is nothing dubious. That is from the Lord of all worlds. [10:37]
Do they perhaps say, “He forged it”? Say, “Then bring a chapter like it, and call upon anyone other than God you can, if you are being truthful.” [10:38]
But they repudiate what they cannot fully comprehend, even when its interpretation comes to them. Thus did those before them impute falsehood; and see how the wrongdoers ended up! [10:39]
There are those of them who believe in it, and there are those of them who do not believe in it; and your Lord knows best the ones who are corrupt. [10:40]
If they accuse you of falsehood, say, “My work to me, and your work to you. You are not responsible for what I do, and I am not responsible for what you do.” [10:41]
Some of them listen to you; but can you make the deaf hear, even though they don’t understand? [10:42]
And some of them look at you; but can you guide the blind, even though they do not see? [10:43]
God is not unjust to people at all; it is people, rather, who wrong themselves. [10:44]
And one day God will gather them, as if they had tarried but an hour of the day; they will recognize each other. Those who scoffed at meeting God will already have lost out, not having accepted guidance. [10:45]
And whether We do show you some of what We promise them, or whether We take your soul, in any case their return is to Us, and then God is witness to what they do. [10:46]
And there is a messenger for every people; and when their messenger has come, judgment among them is made with justice, and they are not wronged. [10:47]
Yet they say, “When is this promised appointment, if you are being truthful?” [10:48]
Say, “I cannot hurt or help myself except as God wills. Every people has an appointed term; and when their time is up, they cannot postpone it even an hour, nor can they advance it.” [10:49]
Say, “Do you see? If the punishment of God comes to you, whether by night or by day, what part of it would sinners seek to hasten? [10:50]
“Then will you believe in it when it actually happens? Now? And you had been seeking to hasten it! [10:51]
“At last it will be said to those who did wrong, ‘Taste the enduring torment! Are you paid for anything but what you have earned?’” [10:52]
Yet they seek information from you: “Is it true?” Say, “Verily, by my Lord. It is indeed the truth; and you cannot thwart it.” [10:53]
Even if every soul that had done wrong had everything on earth, it would not be able to redeem itself thereby; and they manifest repentance when they see the torment. And judgment between them will be made justly, and they will not be wronged. [10:54]
Does not all in the heavens and earth belong to God? Is not the promise of God true, even though most of them do not know? [10:55]
God brings life and deals death; and to God you will be returned. [10:56]
O humanity! Direction has come to you from your Lord, and a remedy for what is in your hearts; and guidance and mercy for the believers. [10:57]
Say, “Let them rejoice in the bounty and mercy of God; that is better than what they amass.” [10:58]
Say, “Do you see what God has sent down for you as sustenance? Yet you make some forbidden and some approved.” Say, “Has God given you permission, or have you imputed something to God?” [10:59]
And what do those who invent lies against God imagine about the resurrection day? God does have blessings for humanity, yet most of them are not grateful. [10:60]
And whatever business you take part in, and whatever you read from the Qur’an, and whatever deed you do, We are witnessing you as you are immersed therein. And nothing on earth or in the sky is hidden from your Lord, even to the weight of an atom; and there is nothing smaller than that and nothing larger but is in a clear writ. [10:61]
Oh, yes! For the friends of God there is no fear, and they will not sorrow; [10:62]
those who believe and are conscientious; [10:63]
for them there are good tidings in the life of the world and the hereafter too. There is no changing the words of God; that is the supreme salvation. [10:64]
And do not let their speech grieve you; for all power belongs to God, who is all-hearing and all-knowing. [10:65]
Indeed, to God belongs all beings in the skies and all beings on earth. And who do those follow who pray to idols instead of God? They follow only fancy, and they simply lie. [10:66]
It is God who has made the night for you, that you may rest therein, and the day, enabling you to see; surely in that is a sign for people who are listening. [10:67]
They even say God has a son. Glory to God! God is the self-sufficient, to whom belongs what is in the skies and what is on earth. You have no authority for this! Do you say of God what you do not know? [10:68]
Say, “Those who manufacture falsehood against God will never succeed.” [10:69]
Some stuff in the world, then back to Us is their return; then We have them taste the intense torment resulting from being ungrateful. [10:70]
Tell them the story of Noah, who said to his people, “O my people! If my presence and my recollection of the signs of God are grievous to you, it is God in whom I trust. So get your business together, and your partners; then your business won’t be in the dark. Then you may pass judgment on me, without giving me a respite. [10:71]
“Yet if you turn back, I do not ask you for any reward; for my recompense is up to God alone. For I have been commanded to be one of those who surrender to God.” [10:72]
Yet they repudiated him; but We rescued him, in the Ark. And We drowned the ones who repudiated Our signs. So observe how those who were warned ended up. [10:73]
Then after him We sent messengers to their peoples, who brought them clarifications; but they did not believe in what they’d rejected before. Thus do We seal the hearts of transgressors. [10:74]
Then after them We sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our signs, but they were arrogant; they were a people guilty of sin. [10:75]
So when truth came to them from Us, they said, “This is obvious sorcery!” [10:76]
Moses said, “Do you say this of truth when it has come to you? Sorcerers do not succeed!” [10:77]
They said, “Have you come to us to turn us away from what we found our fathers following, and to have glory in the land for yourselves? We still do not believe in you two.” [10:78]
And Pharaoh said, “Bring me all the expert magicians!” [10:79]
Then when the magicians came, Moses said to them, “Throw what you throw!” [10:80]
Then when they had thrown, Moses said, “What you have brought is sorcery; God will surely thwart it, for God does not render fit the work of corrupters. [10:81]
“And God verifies truth bywords of truth, even if sinners detest it.” [10:82]
Yet none believed in Moses but some children of his people, for fear that Pharaoh and his chiefs might persecute them. And Pharaoh was indeed exalted on earth, but he was surely guilty of excess. [10:83]
Moses said, “O my people! If you believe in God, then trust in God, if you acquiesce.” [10:84]
They replied, “It is in God that we trust! O Lord! Do not make us a trial for people who are unjust! [10:85]
“And deliver us, by Your mercy, from atheistic people.” [10:86]
And We inspired Moses and his brother: Prepare dwellings for your people in Egypt, and make your homes sites of regular prayer; and bring glad tidings to the believers. [10:87]
Moses said, “Our Lord, You have in fact given Pharaoh and his chiefs pomp and riches in the life of the world, our Lord, so they seduce people from Your way. Our Lord, destroy their riches and harden their hearts; for they will not believe until they see the agony.” [10:88]
God said, Your cry has been heard; so be upright, and do not follow the way those who do not know. [10:89]
So We got the Israelites to cross the sea; and Pharaoh and his troops followed them, with oppression and enmity, until when drowning overtook him, he said, “I believe that there is no God but the One in whom the Israelites believe; I am one of those who surrender.” [10:90]
Now you may be so, but you rebelled before, and you were corrupt. [10:91]
But today We will deliver you physically, that you may be a sign to those who come after you, even though most people are heedless of Our signs. [10:92]
We settled the Israelites in an excellent abode, and sustained them with good things; and they did not differ until knowledge came to them. Your Lord will judge between them on the day of resurrection regarding that wherein they differed. [10:93]
So if you have been in doubt about what We revealed to you, then ask those who have already been reading scripture before you. Truth has come to you from your Lord, so do not be a doubter. [10:94]
And do not be of those who repudiate the signs of God, for then you will be losers. [10:95]
It is the very ones against whom the word of your Lord has proven true that do not believe [10:96]
—even if every sign has come to them— until they see the agony. [10:97]
Why was there not a populace who believed, so its faith profited it, besides the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the world, and We let them enjoy life for a while. [10:98]
Now if your Lord had willed, everyone on earth would have believed; are you then going to compel the people to become believers? [10:99]
For no soul can believe except by God’s permission; and God heaps loathing on those who will not understand. [10:100]
Say, “Behold what is in the heavens and on earth!” But signs and warners are of no avail for those who do not believe. [10:101]
So do they expect anything but the likes of the days of those who passed away before them? Say, “Then wait; I will be waiting with you. ” [10:102]
Finally We will deliver Our messengers, and those who believed. So it is; it behooves Us to deliver the believers. [10:103]
Say, “O people! If you are in doubt about my way, I do not worship the things that you worship instead of God. Rather, I worship God, the one who will take your souls. And I have been ordered to be of the believers, [10:104]
“And to ‘Set your face to religion devoutly; and do not be an idolater.’ [10:105]
“And do not pray to anything but God, anything that neither helps nor hurts you; for if you do so, you will be a wrongdoer.’” [10:106]
And if God touches you with hurt, no one can remove it but God. And if God wishes you well, no one can prevent God’s blessing, which God may send to any devotee at will. And God is the epitome of forgiveness and mercy. [10:107]
Say, “O people! Truth has come to you from your Lord, so whoever accepts guidance is guided for the sake of his own soul alone, and whoever strays only strays to its detriment. So I am not in charge of you.” [10:108]
So follow the inspiration revealed to you, and be patient until God renders judgment, for God is the best of judges. If you are in doubt about my way, I do not worship the things that you worship instead of God. Rather, I worship God, the one who will take your souls. And I have been ordered to be of the believers, [10:109]
