    Surah Rahman

    Contents
      The Benevolent One [55:1]
      taught the Recital, [55:2]
      created man, [55:3]
      taught him expression. [55:4]
The sun and the moon follow calculated courses, [55:5]
and the trees and the grasses bow down. [55:6]
The Benevolent One has raised the sky, and set the balance, [55:7]
so you would not overstep balance. [55:8]
So establish weight justly, not letting the balance give short measure. [55:9]
And the Benevolent One has set the earth for creatures, [55:10]
with fruit there, and date palms with spathes, [55:11]
and grain with stalks, and fragrant herbs. [55:12]
Now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:13]
having made man from clay, like earthenware, [55:14]
or having created the sprites from a mixture of fire— [55:15]
which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:16]
Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests— [55:17]
which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:18]
having loosed the two bodies of water to meet [55:19]
without overflowing a barrier between them— [55:20]
so which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:21]
from them come pearls and coral— [55:22]
so which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:23]
owner of the ships under sail over the sea, like mountains— [55:24]
which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:25]
Every being on earth perishes, [55:26]
yet there remains the design of your Lord, sublime and honorable: [55:27]
so which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:28]
All beings in the heavens and the earth ask of the One who’s in charge every day— [55:29]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:30]
We will soon attend to you, you who are heavy-handed— [55:31]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:32]
O company of sprites and humans: if you can penetrate the ranges of the heavens and the earth, then go ahead. You cannot penetrate without authority. [55:33]
So which of the powers of your Lord do you deny? [55:34]
Flames of fire will be sent on you, and smoke; and you will not be able to defend yourselves; [55:35]
then which of the powers of your Lord will you deny? [55:36]
And when the sky splits apart and becomes rosy as rouge, [55:37]
then which of the powers of your Lord will you deny? [55:38]
Now on that day no human and no sprite will be asked about his sin— [55:39]
then which of the powers of your Lord will you deny— [55:40]
the sinners will be known by their marks; and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet— [55:41]
then which of the powers of your Lord will you deny? [55:42]
This is the hell that sinners deny; [55:43]
they will go round between it and boiling water; [55:44]
then which of the powers of your Lord will you deny? [55:45]
But for those who fear standing before their Lord there are two gardens— [55:46]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:47]
      both containing all species— [55:48]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:49]
in both are two springs flowing— [55:50]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:51]
in both are every fruit, two pairs— [55:52]
now which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:53]
They will recline on carpets lined with silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens will be near at hand— [55:54]
then which of the blessings of your Lord will you deny? [55:55]
In them will be women who restrain their glances, whom no previous man or sprite has deflowered— [55:56]
then which of the blessings of your Lord will you deny— [55:57]
      like rubies and pearls; [55:58]
then which of the blessings of your Lord will you deny? [55:59]
Is the reward for good anything but good? [55:60]
Then which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny? [55:61]
There are also two gardens besides those two— [55:62]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:63]
      deep green— [55:64]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:65]
in them both, two gushing springs— [55:66]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:67]
in them both are fruits, dates, and pomegranates— [55:68]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:69]
in them both will be good women who are beautiful— [55:70]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:71]
      modest maidens in pavilions— [55:72]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:73]
whom no man has deflowered before, nor any sprite— [55:74]
and which of the blessings of your Lord do you deny— [55:75]
reclining on green pillows and fine colorful carpets— [55:76]
so which of the favors of your Lord will you deny? [55:77]
Blessed be the name of God, glorious and noble. [55:78]
