Salat al-Yaqutiyyah
Salat al-Yaqutiyyah (Arabic: الصلاة الياقوتية), also known as The Salutation of the Resplendent Sapphire, is a luminous gem among the treasured salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, originating from the Shadhili Tariqa. It was composed by the great scholar and spiritual master Shaykh Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Masud al-Maghribi al-Fasi V and is renowned for its effectiveness in deepening one’s spiritual connection (nisbat) with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and for facilitating visions of him in dreams.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
“Verily, Allah and His angels send prayers upon the Prophet. O you who believe! Send prayers upon him and salute him with abundant greetings of peace.” (Qur’an 33:56)
O Allah, send prayers and peace upon the one whom You made the cause of the unveiling of Your mighty secrets,
And the disclosure of Your merciful lights,
So that he became a deputy from the Divine Presence,
And the successor to Your essential mysteries.
He is the ruby of Your singular Divine Essence,
And the eye of manifestation of Your eternal attributes.
By You, from You, he became a veil from You,
And a secret from among the secrets of Your unseen.
Through him, You concealed Yourself from many of Your creations.
He is the sealed treasure and the overflowing, unfathomable ocean.
So we ask You, O Allah, by his rank before You and his honour in Your sight,
That You fill our forms with his actions,
Our hearing with his words,
Our hearts with his lights,
Our souls with his secrets,
Our bodies with his states,
Our inner selves with his dealings,
Our innermost being with his witnessing,
Our vision with the radiance of the beauty of his countenance,
And the conclusion of our deeds in his pleasure.
Until we witness You through him, and he through You,
So that I may be a deputy from the two presences by the two presences,
And guide through them to them.
We ask You, O Allah, to send prayer and peace upon him,
A prayer and salutation of peace befitting his noble station and immense rank,
And to unite me with them through him,
And draw me near with the pure love of them to You,
And grant me, by their means, the breath of the pious,
And bestow upon me from them the gift of the chosen ones,
For he is the preserved secret,
The singular hidden gem.
He is the ruby enclosed within the shells of Your hidden treasures,
And the selected essence from which Your knowledge is derived.
Thus, he was a hidden mystery from Your mysteries,
And a substitute for the secret of Your Lordship,
Until he became through that a manifestation by which we are guided to You.
And how could he not be so,
When You have informed us of this in Your clear Book by Your words:
“Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you [O Prophet] are actually pledging allegiance to Allah.” (Qur’an 48:10)
Thus, all doubt has been removed from us, and awareness has been attained.
O Allah, make our guidance to You through him,
And our dealings with You illuminated by the lights of following him.
O Allah, be pleased with those whom You have made exemplary models to follow,
And whose hearts You have turned into lamps of guidance—
Those purified from the bondage of other than You and the stains of worldly distractions,
From whose hearts emerge pearls of divine meanings,
Which have become the necklaces of realization for those who seek truth.
You chose them in the pre-eternal decree,
To be among the companions of Your chosen Prophet,
And You were pleased with them as the supporters of Your religion.
Thus, they are the noble and righteous masters.
O Allah, increase upon them the abundance of Your pleasure,
Along with the Prophet’s family, his kin, and those who follow in their footsteps.
O Allah, forgive our sins,
And the sins of our parents,
Our teachers, our brothers and sisters in faith,
And all believing men and women,
All Muslim men and women—
Both the obedient among them and those burdened with sins.

About Salat al-Yaqutiyyah
One account of its origin narrates that Shaykh al-Fasi, while sitting in the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabawi) reciting the Shadhili litany, heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instruct him to increase in sending salutations. When the Shaykh inquired about what to recite, the Prophet ﷺ directed him to the words of Salat al-Yaqutiyyah.
A Key to Prophetic Vision
The contemporary Shadhili shaykh Shaykh Nuh Keller describes this invocation as “The Invocation of the Priceless Gem”, highlighting that after composing it, Shaykh al-Fasi saw the Prophet ﷺ pointing at his chest, saying:
This is the impregnable secret.
He then presented it to the spiritual elite, receiving their approval. The Pole (Qutb) of his time affirmed:
Whoever regularly recites it three times in the morning and three times in the evening shall frequently see the Prophet ﷺ, both awake and asleep, in the sensory and the spiritual.
Shaykh al-Fasi also narrates that a disciple who entered a seven-day retreat (khalwa) reciting it continuously did not emerge until he had met the Prophet ﷺ while awake, receiving sacred knowledge and divine secrets directly from him.
Testimonies from Scholars
- Shaykh Muhammad Sadiq Alawi lists Salat al-Yaqutiyyah among the most effective means to attain the vision of the Prophet ﷺ, as recorded in his work The Key to Arriving at the Door of the Messenger.
- Al-Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani states:
Whoever recites this [Salat al-Yaqutiyyah] three times in the morning and three times in the evening will frequently see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, both in wakefulness and in dreams.
- Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi often prescribes Salat al-Yaqutiyyah for those yearning to witness the Prophet ﷺ.
A Spiritual Treasure
More than just a supplication, Salat al-Yaqutiyyah is a means of unveiling divine secrets, attaining nearness to the Prophet ﷺ, and transforming one’s spiritual state.
