Qasidah al-Salam (Arabic: قصيدة السلام; “The Poem of Peace”), also known by its opening words Salamun ‘ala Qabrin (Arabic: سلام على قبر; “Peace Be Upon a Blessed Grave”), is a poem attributed to Imam al-Jazuli, the author of Dalail al-Khayrat. It is said that he composed this qasida while visiting the blessed tomb of the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah.

سَلَامٌ عَلَى قَبْرٍ يُزَارُ مِنَ الْبُعْدِ ❁

Salāmun ʿalā qabrin yuzāru mina l-buʿdi,

1. Peace be upon a grave visited from afar,

سَلَامٌ عَلَى مَنْ زَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ رَبَّهُ ❁
فَبَلَّغَهُ الْمَرْغُوبَ فِي كُلِّ مَقْصَدٍ ❁

Salāmun ʿalā man zāra fī l-layli Rabbahu,
fa-ballaghahu l-marghūba fī kulli maqṣadin.

2. Peace be upon him who journeyed by night to his Lord,
Who granted him all that he sought in every aspiration.

فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁

Salāmun ʿalā man qāla li-ḍ-ḍabbi man anā,

3. Peace be upon him who asked the lizard, “Who am I?”
and it replied, “The Messenger of Allah, you are Muhammad.”

سَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمَدْفُونِ فِي أَرْضِ طَيْبَةَ ❁
وَمَنْ خَصَّهُ الرَّحْمَنُ بِالْفَضْلِ وَالْمَجْدِ ❁
وَمَنْ خَصَّهُ الرَّحْمَنُ بِالْفَضْلِ وَالْمَجْدِ ❁
Salāmun ʿalā l-madfūni fī arḍi Ṭaybata,
wa-man khaṣṣahu r-Raḥmānu bi-l-faḍli wa-l-majdi.

4. Peace be upon the one buried in the land of Taybah (Madinah),
whom the Most Compassionate singled out with excellence and glory.

نَبِيٌّ حَبَاهُ اللَّهُ بِالْحُسْنِ وَالْبَهَا ❁
فَطُوبَى لِعَبْدٍ زَارَ قَبْرَ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁

Nabiyyun ḥabāhu Llāhu bi-l-ḥusni wa-l-bahā,
fa-ṭūbā li-ʿabdin zāra qabra Muḥammadin.

5. A Prophet whom Allah adorned with beauty and splendour.

أَيَا رَاكِبًا نَحْوَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَاصِدًا ❁
فَبَلِّغْ سَلَامِي لِلْحَبِيبِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁

Ayā rākiban naḥwa l-Madīnati qāṣidan,
fa-balligh salāmī li-l-ḥabībi Muḥammadin.

6. O traveller bound for Madinah,
convey my greetings to the beloved Muhammad.

فِي رَوْضَتِهِ الْحُسْنَى مُنَايَ وَبُغْيَتِي ❁
وَفِيهَا شِفَا قَلْبِي وَرُوحِي وَرَاحَتِي ❁

Fī rawḍatihi l-ḥusnā munāya wa-bughyatī,
wa-fīhā shifā qalbī wa-rūḥī wa-rāḥatī.

7. Within his most beautiful Rawdah lies my deepest longing and desire,
therein lies the healing of my heart and soul, and therein my repose.

فَإِنْ بَعُدَتْ عَنِّي وَعَزَّ مَزَارُهَا ❁
فَتِمْثَالُهَا لَدَيَّ أَحْسَنُ صُورَةٍ ❁

Fa-in baʿudat ʿannī wa-ʿazza mazāruhā,
fa-timthāluhā ladayya aḥsanu ṣūratin.

8. Though it lies far from me and visiting it is difficult,
its image remains before me, the most beautiful of all sights.

أُنَزِّهُ طَرْفَ الْعَيْنِ فِي حُسْنِ رَوْضِهَا ❁
فَيَسْلُو بِهَا لُبِّي وَسِرِّي وَمُهْجَتِي ❁

Unazzihu ṭarfa l-ʿayni fī ḥusni rawḍihā,
fa-yaslū bihā lubbī wa-sirrī wa-muhjatī.

9. I delight my gaze in the beauty of its garden,
whereby my heart, innermost being, and soul find solace.

فَهَا أَنَا يَا قُطْبَ الْعَوَالِمِ كُلِّهَا ❁
أُقَبِّلُهَا شَوْقًا لِإِشْفَاءِ عِلَّتِي ❁

Fa-hā anā yā quṭba l-ʿawālimi kullihā,
uqabbiluhā shawqan li-ishfā'i ʿillatī.

10. Here I am, O axis of all the worlds!

وَصَلِّ عَلَى قُطْبِ الْوُجُودِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁
صَلَاةً بِهَا تَمْحُو عَنَّا كُلَّ زَلَّةٍ ❁

Wa-ṣalli ʿalā quṭbi l-wujūdi Muḥammadin,

11. Send prayers upon the axis of all existence, Muhammad,

12. There is no god but Allah, there is no god but Allah.
