Misbah al-Zalam fi al-Salat wa al-Salam ‘ala Khayr al-Anam ﷺ (Arabic: مصباح الظلام في الصلاة والسلام على خير الأنام ﷺ; “The Lamp Lighting the Darkness through Prayers and Salutations upon the Best of Mankind ﷺ”), attributed to Shaykh Nur al-Din al-Shuni, is a collection of 13 prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ arranged as a single supplication. It was widely recited at al-Azhar and spread throughout Egypt and beyond during the Shaykh’s lifetime and after his passing.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ❁ عَدَدَ خَلْقِكَ وَرِضَا نَفْسِكَ وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِكَ وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِكَ ❁ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرَكَ الذَّاكِرُونَ ❁ وَكُلَّمَا غَفَلَ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِ الْغَافِلُونَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā Muḥammadin wa-ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa-ʿalā āli Ibrāhīma, wa-bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa-ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa-ʿalā āli Ibrāhīma fī l-ʿālamīna, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīdun, ʿadada khalqika wa-riḍā nafsika wa-zinata ʿarshika wa-midāda kalimātika, kullamā dhakaraka dh-dhākirūna, wa-kullamā ghafala ʿan dhikrihi l-ghāfilūn.
1. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon Muhammad and upon the Family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. And bless Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim among the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious, equal to the number of Your creation, to the extent of Your pleasure, to the weight of Your Throne, and to the ink of Your words, whenever the people of remembrance remember You, and whenever the heedless are heedless of Your remembrance.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ أَفْضَلَ صَلَاةٍ عَلَى أَفْضَلِ مَخْلُوقَاتِكَ ❁ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ ❁ عَدَدَ مَعْلُومَاتِكَ ❁ وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِكَ ❁ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرَكَ الذَّاكِرُونَ ❁ وَكُلَّمَا غَفَلَ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِ الْغَافِلُونَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli afḍala ṣalātin ʿalā afḍali makhlūqātika, sayyidinā Muḥammadin, wa-ʿalā ālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi wa-sallim, ʿadada maʿlūmātika, wa-midāda kalimātika, kullamā dhakaraka dh-dhākirūna, wa-kullamā ghafala ʿan dhikrihi l-ghāfilūn.
2. O Allah, send the best of prayers upon the best of Your creation, our master Muhammad, and upon his Family and his Companions, and grant peace, equal to the number of all that You know and to the ink of Your words, whenever the people of remembrance remember You, and whenever the heedless are heedless of Your remembrance.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَنَبِيِّكَ وَرَسُولِكَ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ ❁ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ ❁ عَدَدَ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ ❁ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ❁ وَأَجْرِ لُطْفَكَ فِي أُمُورِنَا وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ أَجْمَعِينَ ❁ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin ʿabdika wa-nabiyyika wa-rasūlika n-nabiyyi l-ummiyyi, wa-ʿalā ālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi wa-sallim, ʿadada mā fī s-samāwāti, wa-mā fī l-arḍi wa-mā baynahumā, wa-ajri luṭfaka fī umūrinā wa-l-muslimīna ajmaʿīna, yā Rabba l-ʿālamīn.
3. O Allah, send prayers upon our master Muhammad, Your slave, Your Prophet, and Your Messenger, the primordial Prophet, and upon his Family and his Companions, and grant peace, equal to the number of all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth and all that is between them, and let Your gentle care flow through our affairs and the affairs of all Muslims, O Lord of the worlds.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ ❁ عَدَدَ مَا كَانَ وَعَدَدَ مَا يَكُونُ ❁ وَعَدَدَ مَا هُوَ كَائِنٌ فِي عِلْمِ اللَّهِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin wa-ʿalā ālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi wa-sallim, ʿadada mā kāna wa-ʿadada mā yakūnu, wa-ʿadada mā huwa kā'inun fī ʿilmi Llāh.
4. O Allah, send prayers upon our master Muhammad and upon his Family and Companions, and grant peace, equal to the number of what has been and the number of what will be and the number of what exists in the knowledge of Allah.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى رُوحِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ فِي الْأَرْوَاحِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى جَسَدِهِ فِي الْأَجْسَادِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ فِي الْقُبُورِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى اسْمِهِ فِي الْأَسْمَاءِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā rūḥi sayyidinā Muḥammadin fī l-arwāḥi, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā jasadihi fī l-ajsādi, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā qabrihi fī l-qubūri, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā smihi fī l-asmā'.
5. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon the spirit of our master Muhammad among the spirits, and send prayers and peace upon his body among the bodies, and send prayers and peace upon his grave among the graves, and send prayers and peace upon his name among the names.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ صَاحِبِ الْعَلَامَةِ وَالْغَمَامَةِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin, ṣāḥibi l-ʿalāmati wa-l-ghamāmah.
6. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, the possessor of the standard and the cloud.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ الَّذِي هُوَ أَبْهَى مِنَ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَدَدَ حَسَنَاتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَدَدَ نَبَاتِ الْأَرْضِ وَأَوْرَاقِ الشَّجَرِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini, lladhī huwa abhā mina sh-shamsi wa-l-qamari, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin ʿadada ḥasanāti Abī Bakrin wa-ʿUmara, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin ʿadada nabāti l-arḍi wa-awrāqi sh-shajar.
7. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, who is more radiant than the sun and the moon, and send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad equal to the number of the good deeds of Abu Bakr and Umar, and send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad equal to the number of the plants of the earth and the leaves of the trees.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ الَّذِي جَمَعْتَ بِهِ شَتَاتَ النُّفُوسِ ❁ وَنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي جَلَيْتَ بِهِ ظَلَامَ الْقُلُوبِ ❁ وَحَبِيبِكَ الَّذِي اِخْتَرْتَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَبِيبٍ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin ʿabdika lladhī jamaʿta bihi shatāta n-nufūsi, wa-nabiyyika lladhī jalayta bihi ẓalāma l-qulūbi, wa-ḥabībika lladhī khtartahu ʿalā kulli ḥabīb.
8. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, Your slave by whom You gathered the scattered souls, Your Prophet by whom You removed the darkness of the hearts, and Your Beloved whom You have chosen above every beloved.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الَّذِي جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ الْمُبِينِ ❁ وَأَرْسَلْتَهُ رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini lladhī jā'a bi-l-ḥaqqi l-mubīni, wa-arsaltahu raḥmatan li-l-ʿālamīn.
9. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, who came with the manifest truth and whom You sent as a mercy to the worlds.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْمَلِيحِ ❁ صَاحِبِ الْمَقَامِ الْأَعْلَى ❁ وَاللِّسَانِ الْفَصِيحِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini n-nabiyyi l-malīḥi, ṣāḥibi l-maqāmi l-aʿlā, wa-l-lisāni l-faṣīḥ.
10. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, the beautiful Prophet, the possessor of the highest rank and the eloquent tongue.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِشَرَفِ نُبُوَّتِهِ ❁ وَلِعَظِيمِ قَدْرِهِ الْعَظِيمِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَمِقْدَارِهِ الْعَظِيمِ ❁ وَصَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّسُولِ الْكَرِيمِ ❁ الْمُطَاعِ الْأَمِينِ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin kamā yanbaghī li-sharafi nubuwwatihi, wa-li-ʿaẓīmi qadrihi l-ʿaẓīmi, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadin ḥaqqa qadrihi wa-miqdārihi l-ʿaẓīmi, wa-ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini r-rasūli l-karīmi, l-muṭāʿi l-amīn.
11. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad as befits the honour of his prophethood and the greatness of his immense rank, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad according to his true worth and the greatness of his rank, and send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, the noble Messenger, the one who is obeyed and trustworthy.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَبِيبِ ❁ وَعَلَى أَبِيهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْخَلِيلِ ❁ وَعَلَى أَخِيهِ مُوسَى الْكَلِيمِ ❁ وَعَلَى رُوحِ اللَّهِ عِيسَى الْأَمِينِ ❁ وَعَلَى دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى ❁ وَعَلَى آلِهِمْ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرَكَ الذَّاكِرُونَ ❁ وَغَفَلَ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمُ الْغَافِلُونَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini l-ḥabībi, wa-ʿalā abīhi Ibrāhīma l-khalīli, wa-ʿalā akhīhi Mūsā l-kalīmi, wa-ʿalā rūḥi Llāhi ʿĪsā l-amīni, wa-ʿalā Dāwūda wa-Sulaymāna wa-Zakariyyā wa-Yaḥyā, wa-ʿalā ālihim kullamā dhakaraka dh-dhākirūna, wa-ghafala ʿan dhikrihimu l-ghāfilūn.
12. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our master Muhammad, the Beloved, and upon his forefather Ibrahim, the Intimate Friend, and upon his brother Musa, the one spoken to with divine speech, and upon the Spirit of Allah, Isa the trustworthy, and upon Dawud, Sulayman, Zakariyya, and Yahya, and upon their families, whenever the people of remembrance remember You, and whenever the heedless neglect their remembrance.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ وَبَارِكْ عَلَى عَيْنِ الْعِنَايَةِ ❁ وَزَيْنِ الْقِيَامَةِ ❁ وَكَنْزِ الْهِدَايَةِ ❁ وَطِرَازِ الْحُلَّةِ ❁ وَعَرُوسِ الْمَمْلَكَةِ ❁ وَلِسَانِ الْحُجَّةِ وَشَفِيعِ الْأُمَّةِ ❁ وَإِمَامِ الْحَضْرَةِ ❁ وَنَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ وَعَلَى آدَمَ وَنُوحٍ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الْخَلِيلِ ❁ وَعَلَى أَخِيهِ مُوسَى الْكَلِيمِ ❁ وَعَلَى رُوحِ اللَّهِ عِيسَى الْأَمِينِ ❁ وَعَلَى دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى ❁ وَعَلَى آلِهِمْ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرَكَ الذَّاكِرُونَ ❁ وَغَفَلَ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمُ الْغَافِلُونَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim wa-bārik ʿalā ʿayni l-ʿināyati, wa-zayni l-qiyāmati, wa-kanzi l-hidāyati, wa-ṭirāzi l-ḥullati, wa-ʿarūsi l-mamlakati, wa-lisāni l-ḥujjati wa-shafīʿi l-ummati, wa-imāmi l-ḥaḍrati, wa-nabiyyi r-raḥmati sayyidinā Muḥammadin, wa-ʿalā Ādama wa-Nūḥin wa-Ibrāhīma l-khalīli, wa-ʿalā akhīhi Mūsā l-kalīmi, wa-ʿalā rūḥi Llāhi ʿĪsā l-amīni, wa-ʿalā Dāwūda wa-Sulaymāna wa-Zakariyyā wa-Yaḥyā, wa-ʿalā ālihim kullamā dhakaraka dh-dhākirūna, wa-ghafala ʿan dhikrihimu l-ghāfilūn.
13. O Allah, send prayers, peace, and blessings upon the very focus of divine care, the ornament of the Resurrection, the treasure of guidance, the adornment of the robe of honour, the bridegroom of the kingdom, the tongue of divine proof, the intercessor of the ummah, the imam in the court of divine presence, and the Prophet of Mercy, our master Muhammad, and upon Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim the Intimate Friend, his brother Musa, the one spoken to with divine speech, the Spirit of Allah, Isa the trustworthy, Dawud, Sulayman, Zakariyya, and Yahya, and upon their families, whenever the people of remembrance remember You, and whenever the heedless neglect their remembrance.
