Dua for Thunder
Dua 1: Seeking Protection When Hearing Thunder
Ibn Umar I reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard thunder or a thunderbolt, he would recite the following supplication.
اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ ❁ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ ❁ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ ❁
Allāhumma lā taqtulnā bi-ghaḍabika, wa-lā tuhliknā bi-ʿadhābika, wa-ʿāfinā qabla dhālik.
O Allah, do not cause us to die through Your anger, nor destroy us through Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that.

Dua 2: Glorifying Allah When Hearing Thunder
Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr I would stop speaking when he heard thunder and recite the following words.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ ❁
Subḥāna lladhī yusabbiḥu r-raʿdu bi-ḥamdihi wa-l-malāʾikatu min khīfatih.
Glory be to Him Whom the thunder glorifies with His praise, and the angels out of fear of Him.

Dua 3: Glorifying Allah for Protection from Thunder
Ibn Abbas I related that while travelling with Umar I, they experienced lightning, thunder, and hail. Ka’b I told them that whoever recited the following words three times upon hearing thunder would be protected from it. They recited them and were protected.
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ ❁
Subḥāna man yusabbiḥu r-raʿdu bi-ḥamdihi wa-l-malā'ikatu min khīfatih.
Glory be to the One Whom the thunder glorifies with His praise, and the angels out of fear of Him.
