Dua for Sunrise
Dua 1: Supplication Upon Sunrise
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri I reported that when the sun rose, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite the following supplication.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَلَّلَنَا الْيَوْمَ عَافِيَتَهُ ❁ وَجَاءَ بِالشَّمْسِ مِنْ مَطْلَعِهَا ❁ اللَّهُمَّ أَصْبَحْتُ أَشْهَدُ لَكَ بِمَا شَهِدْتَ بِهِ لِنَفْسِكَ ❁ وَشَهِدَتْ بِهِ مَلَائِكَتُكَ وَحَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ وَجَمِيعُ خَلْقِكَ ❁ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْقَائِمُ بِالْقِسْطِ ❁ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ ❁ اكْتُبْ شَهَادَتِي بَعْدَ شَهَادَةِ مَلَائِكَتِكَ وَأُولِي الْعِلْمِ ❁ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ ❁ وَإِلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ ❁ أَسْأَلُكَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ أَنْ تَسْتَجِيبَ لَنَا دَعْوَتَنَا ❁ وَأَنْ تُعْطِيَنَا رَغْبَتَنَا ❁ وَأَنْ تُغْنِيَنَا عَمَّنْ أَغْنَيْتَهُ عَنَّا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ ❁ اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ لِي دِينِيَ الَّذِي هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِي ❁ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعِيشَتِي ❁ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِيَ الَّتِي إِلَيْهَا مُنْقَلَبِي ❁
Al-ḥamdu li-Llāhi lladhī jallalanā l-yawma ʿāfiyatahu, wa-jā'a bi-sh-shamsi min maṭlaʿihā. Allāhumma aṣbaḥtu ashhadu laka bi-mā shahidta bihi li-nafsika, wa-shahidat bihi malā'ikatuka wa-ḥamalatu ʿarshika wa-jamīʿu khalqika, annaka anta Llāhu lā ilāha illā anta, al-Qā'imu bi-l-qisṭi, lā ilāha illā anta, al-ʿAzīzu l-Ḥakīm. Uktub shahādatī baʿda shahādati malā'ikatika wa-ulī l-ʿilm. Allāhumma anta s-Salāmu wa-minka s-salāmu, wa-ilayka s-salāmu, as'aluka yā Dhā l-Jalāli wa-l-Ikrāmi an tastajība lanā daʿwatanā, wa-an tuʿṭiyanā raghbatanā, wa-an tughniyanā ʿamman aghnaytahu ʿannā min khalqika. Allāhumma aṣliḥ lī dīniya lladhī huwa ʿiṣmatu amrī, wa-aṣliḥ lī dunyāya llatī fīhā maʿīshatī, wa-aṣliḥ lī ākhiratiya llatī ilayhā munqalabī.
All praise belongs to Allah, Who has enveloped us this day in well-being and brought forth the sun from its rising place. O Allah, this morning I bear witness to that which You have testified concerning Yourself, and to which Your angels, the bearers of Your Throne, and all Your creation have testified: that You are Allah, there is no god but You, the Upholder of justice. There is no god but You, the Mighty, the Wise. Record my testimony after the testimony of Your angels and those endowed with knowledge. O Allah, You are Peace, from You is peace, and to You is peace. I ask You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, to answer our supplication, grant us what we desire, and make us free of need of those among Your creation whom You have made free of need of us. O Allah, set right for me my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs. Set right for me my worldly life, wherein is my livelihood, and set right for me my Hereafter, to which is my return.

Dua 2: Praising Allah at Sunrise
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud I appointed someone to watch for the sunrise. When he was informed that the sun had risen, he recited the following words.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي وَهَبَ لَنَا هَذَا الْيَوْمَ وَأَقَالَنَا فِيهِ مِنْ عَثَرَاتِنَا ❁
Al-ḥamdu li-Llāhi lladhī wahaba lanā hādhā l-yawma wa-aqālanā fīhi min ʿatharātinā.
All praise belongs to Allah, Who has granted us this day and pardoned our shortcomings in it.
