Dua 5: Supplication When Confronted by Shaytan
Abu ad-Darda’ I reported: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once stood to pray, and we heard him say: ‘I seek refuge with Allah from you.’ He then said three times: ‘I invoke the curse of Allah upon you.’ After that, he stretched out his hand as though he were trying to seize something. When he finished the prayer, we said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, we heard you say something during the prayer that we had never heard you say before, and we saw you stretch out your hand.’ He replied: ‘Iblis, the enemy of Allah, came toward me with a flame of fire intending to cast it in my face. I said three times: “I seek refuge with Allah from you,” and three times: “I invoke the complete curse of Allah upon you.” He did not retreat, so I intended to seize him. By Allah, were it not for the supplication of our brother Sulayman, he would have been bound so that the children of Madinah could play with him.’”
