Dua Before Wudu
Dua for Beginning Wudu
According to the majority of scholars, it is recommended to mention the name of Allah at the beginning of wudu, by saying “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful,” although simply saying “In the name of Allah” is sufficient. According to the Shafi‘i school, if one forgets to say it at the beginning, it may be said during wudu, but not after completing it, as its proper place has passed. The wudu remains valid whether it was omitted intentionally or forgetfully. Although several hadiths have been reported concerning mentioning Allah’s name before wudu, their chains are considered weak. Among them is the narration from Abu Hurayrah I that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There is no wudu for one who does not mention the name of Allah over it.”
