Darood Taj
Darood Taj (Urdu: درود تاج; “Crown Salutation”), also known as Salat al-Taj (Arabic: صلاة التاج; “The Prayer of the Crown”), is a well-known prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ. Widely recited throughout the world, it is especially popular in the Indian subcontinent. The prayer was composed by Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim, a scholar and gnostic from Tarim in the Hadhramaut Valley of Yemen, who was born on 13 Jumada al-Thani 919 AH (16 August 1513 CE). Among his titles was Fakhr al-Wujud, meaning “The Pride of Existence.”

About Darood Taj
Darood Taj is one of the most widely recited prayers upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Since its composition, it has been cherished by generations of the righteous (salihin), gnostics (arifin), and seekers (muridin), many of whom adopted it as part of their daily litanies (awrad). Numerous scholars and saints taught this prayer to their disciples and encouraged its regular recitation as a means of drawing nearer to Allah through abundant prayers upon His Beloved Messenger ﷺ.
Traditionally, Darood Taj is regarded as a source of immense blessings (barakah), spiritual illumination, and purification of the heart. Regular recitation is said to soften the heart, increase one’s provision (rizq), protect against the effects of magic (sihr), envy (hasad), jinn and other harmful influences, relieve grief and sadness, avert calamities, and strengthen one’s love for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Many spiritual teachers also regarded it as a means of receiving divine inspiration (ilham) and, by Allah’s permission, being blessed with a vision of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Recommended Recitation
Over the centuries, scholars and spiritual masters have recommended the following recitations for particular purposes:
- Purification of the heart: Recite 7 times after Fajr, 3 times after Asr, and 3 times after Isha daily.
- Increase in provision (rizq): Recite 7 times after Fajr, or between Tahajjud and Fajr.
- Protection from magic (sihr), jinn, devils, illness and calamities: Recite 11 times daily.

- Fulfilment of a lawful need or noble purpose: Recite 40 times during the night between Isha and Fajr.
- Divine inspiration (ilham): Recite 100 times daily for three consecutive years.
- A vision of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: Recite 170 times every Thursday night (the night preceding Friday) for 40 consecutive weeks.
- Recovery from illness: Recite 11 times, blow upon water, and drink it.
- To inspire affection: Recite 111 times nightly for 40 consecutive nights while in seclusion.
- For a barren wife seeking children: Recite the Darood 7 times over each of 21 dates (147 recitations in total), feeding one date daily.
- For difficulties during pregnancy: Recite 7 times daily over water for seven consecutive days, then drink the water on the seventh day.
