Darood Ghousia
Darood Ghousia (Urdu: درودِ غوثیہ) or Salat al-Ghawthiyya (Arabic: الصلاة الغوثية) is a prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ written by Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani. This prayer appears in numerous classical Islamic awrad books including Dala’il al-Khayrat and Hizb al-A’zam.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ السَّابِقِ لِلْخَلْقِ نُورُهُ وَرَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ ظُهُورُهُ ❁ عَدَدَ مَنْ مَضَى مِنْ خَلْقِكَ ❁ وَمَنْ بَقِيَ وَمَنْ سَعِدَ مِنْهُمْ وَمَنْ شَقِيَ ❁ صَلَاةً تَسْتَغْرِقُ الْعَدَّ وَتُحِيطُ بِالْحَدِّ ❁ صَلَاةً لَا غَايَةَ لَهَا وَلَا مُنْتَهَى وَلَا اِنْقِضَاءَ ❁ صَلَاةً دَائِمَةً بِدَوَامِكَ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيمًا مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ❁
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammadini, s-sābiqi li-l-khalqi nūruhu wa-raḥmatan li-l-ʿālamīna ẓuhūruhu, ʿadada man maḍā min khalqika, wa-man baqiya wa-man saʿida minhum wa-man shaqiya, ṣalātan tastaghriqu l-ʿadda wa-tuḥīṭu bi-l-ḥaddi, ṣalātan lā ghāyata lahā wa-lā muntahā wa-lā nqiḍā’a, ṣalātan dā’imatan bi-dawāmika wa-ʿalā ālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi wa-sallim taslīman mithla dhālik.
O Allah, send prayers upon our master Muhammad, whose light preceded creation and whose appearance is a mercy to all the worlds, equal to the number of those of Your creation who have passed away, those who remain, those among them who are fortunate, and those who are wretched. Send prayers that encompass every number and every limit, prayers that have neither limit nor end nor cessation, everlasting by Your everlastingness. And send prayers upon his Family and his Companions, and grant peace in like measure.

Allāhumma ṣalli wa-sallim wa-bārik wa-karrim ʿalā sayyidinā wa-mawlānā Muḥammadini, s-sābiqi li-l-khalqi nūruhu raḥmatan li-l-ʿālamīna ẓuhūruhu, ʿadada man maḍā min khalqika, wa-man baqiya wa-man saʿida minhum wa-man shaqiya, ṣalātan tastaghriqu l-ʿadda wa-tuḥīṭu bi-l-ḥaddi, ṣalātan lā ghāyata lahā wa-lā ntihā’a wa-lā amada lahā wa-lā nqiḍā’a, ṣalātaka llatī ṣallayta ʿalayhi ṣalātan dā’imatan bi-dawāmika bāqiyatan bi-baqā’ika lā muntahā dūna ʿilmika, wa-ʿalā ālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi ka-dhālika wa-l-ḥamdu li-Llāhi ʿalā dhālik.
O Allah, send prayers, peace, blessings, and honour upon our master and patron Muhammad, whose light preceded creation and whose appearance is a mercy to all the worlds, equal to the number of those of Your creation who have passed away, those who remain, those among them who are fortunate, and those who are wretched. Send prayers that encompass every number and every limit, prayers that have neither end nor conclusion, neither term nor cessation. They are the very prayers which You sent upon him, everlasting by Your everlastingness, enduring by Your permanence, with no limit short of Your knowledge. And send them likewise upon his Family and his Companions. All praise belongs to Allah for that.

About Darood Ghousia
Darood Ghousia, also known as Salat al-Ghawthiyya, is attributed to Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani. It appears in several renowned collections of awrad and prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ, including:
- Dala’il al-Khayrat (Waymarks of Benefits) by Imam Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli.
- Hizb al-A’zam (The Supreme Daily Remembrance) by Mulla Ali al-Qari.
- Majmu’ah Salawat al-Rasul (A Compendium of Blessings upon the Prophetic Messenger ﷺ) by Khwaja Shaykh Abdur-Rahman Chohravi.
- Afdal al-Salawat (The Best of Prayers) by Imam Yusuf ibn Isma’il an-Nabahani,
- Awrad al-Qadiriyyah (The Spiritual Litanies of the Qadiriyyah Order), compiled by Muhammad Salim Bawwaab.
Shaykh al-Adawi, in his commentary on Dala’il al-Khayrat, cites Shaykh Muhyi al-Din, a renowned figure in Yemen, who said:
Whoever recites this prayer 10 times in the morning and 10 times in the evening will earn Allah’s Pleasure, be shielded from His chastisement, and experience continuous divine mercy and protection. Their affairs will be eased and blessed by Allah.
He also relates that Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani would conclude his daily litany with this prayer.
The Egyptian scholar Shams al-Din al-Sakhawi (d. 902 AH/1497 CE) likewise reports that some scholars regarded a single recitation of this prayer as equal in reward to 10,000 prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ.

- The reward of 10,000 prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ for a single recitation, according to some scholars.
Recommended Recitation
The following recitations have been recommended for particular purposes:
For attaining Allah’s Pleasure, protection from His chastisement, and blessings in one’s affairs: Recite 10 times in the morning and 10 times in the evening.
